USER TESTING

Overview 🔎

ProService Hawaii is a leading HR solutions provider offering modern, streamlined services for both employers and employees. Their comprehensive platform supports a wide range of essential HR functions—including time tracking, payroll processing, employee dashboards, and detailed reporting—empowering clients to efficiently manage and complete all HR-related tasks. By combining advanced tools with expert support, ProService Hawaii helps businesses simplify operations, ensure compliance, and create better workplace experiences.

The Problem 🚩

Previously, Proservice relied on third-party software providers like Kronos and PrismHR to manage employee time tracking. However, these tools presented a major challenge: most of our users work actively in the field and require a fast, hands-free, and intuitive solution to manage their hours and track work activities.Through user research and field studies, we discovered that employees needed a more accessible way to log their hours and activities while on-site, often using shared devices like tablets or desktops set up at the job site.

At the same time, employers required a simple way to configure and manage these shared devices so employees could quickly clock in, report tasks, and stay focused on their jobs without delays or confusion. These insights led us to rethink and redesign the time-tracking experience, creating a more seamless, field-friendly tool tailored to the real needs of Proservice users.

EXPERIENCE
STRATEGY

Our Approach 🎯

From the beginning, we focused on deeply understanding our users by conducting over 20–30 user interviews and multiple rounds of live user testing. We tested early product versions, both functional prototypes and low-fidelity wireframes, to validate assumptions and refine the experience based on real user feedback. Our research included small business owners, managers, and on-site employees, allowing us to gather diverse insights from all ends of the workflow.
This feedback helped us define the key boundaries, constraints, and design guidelines that shaped our first Minimum Viable Product (MVP).In parallel, we prioritized accessibility from the start. Following WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), we ensured the interface was both inclusive and highly visible in field environments. We paid special attention to color contrast and visual clarity, designing with bold, consistent color schemes that are easily distinguishable by users working under varying lighting and environmental conditions.

Prioritizing Accessibility and Human-Centered Design

I designed a clear and accessible visual experience that empowers employees to take quick actions with ease. From a prominently placed clock-in button for seamless time tracking to intuitive pay rate summaries and more, every detail is built with usability and efficiency in mind.

Management of Shared
Device
Feature

We developed a multi-user shared device feature that allows WSEs to clock in and out without needing to use their personal devices. Instead, they can use a shared device such as a tablet or a common-use computer.

ProService Design System
Atomic Design / MUI Hybrid

All of these designs were built using our custom ProService Design System, which includes over 50 reusable and scalable components deeply integrated with our frontend's MUI library. I've customized colors, styles, naming conventions, and nomenclature to ensure consistency across the entire product and maintain a pixel-perfect design architecture.
